West Virginia University: Book Storage Facility
- New 21,300 SF High-Density Book Storage Facility
- WVU Library needed a high-density book storage facility with a capacity for approximately 1 million volume equivalents
- The loading on the floor amounts to 18,000 lbs
- The storage facility has the following special features:
- Bar coding
- High level order picker vehicle
- 3,000 SF processing area
- High density shelving system
- Provisions for fire protection
- Close tolerance heating, ventilating, & air conditioning system
- Lighting upgrades: high pressure sodium lighting fixtures
- Vapor barriers: in order to maintain a relative humidity in the 40% or lower range it was necessary to have a very tight vapor barrier around the high-density storage system
- “Super Flat” floor for storage area
