NASA Langley Research Center

Design-Build Team that was awarded the Design Excellence Design/Build contract for the first of the six buildings. This 79,000 SF, three-story, all glass and metal panel building is the new home for the Center’s Director, her team, and five other departments. The building is designed to meet blast mitigation and progressive collapse requirements. The interior supports five state-of-the-art conferencing rooms that provide a real time connection between NASA’s other strategic Centers. The building is designed with a 2,000A 480Y/277V service. An electrical sum metering package was incorporated into the design to provide measurement and verification of energy consumption of the building.  The building is also equipped with a 250 kW life safety generator to provide emergency power for lighting, elevator and smoke exhaust equipment.

The building has received a LEED Platinum Rating through innovative solutions that include under-floor air distribution (UFAD), in addition to the bridging design having geo-thermal and photovoltaic (PV) elements
