We would like to give a huge shout-out to our Joel Shumaker, who just returned from his seventh mission trip to Honduras! Throughout the week long trip, the group built five houses, each of which were 16’x16′ in size with elevated floors, metal roofs and rainwater collection systems. The houses, which are located in the Tegucigalpa region of the country, utilize natural ventilation and have no water or power to them. The families who received the new homes were either living with other relatives or homeless prior to the build. The group also packed 200, 25-pound food bags that were distributed throughout some of the remote villages.
Joel, or the “Giant Gringo” as the Hondurans call him, says they were blessed with a great group of eager workers and he’s proud to be associated with such an outstanding organization and crew. During the week, he had the opportunity to visit the new women’s training center that the group had worked on last Spring. They distributed a couple hundred food bags and wired up new circulations fans for the facility, which is now fully operational. Some of his other favorite highlights from the trip included serving pizza to those on the street and enjoying interesting conversations with the locals that stopped by their job sites.
Welcome back Joel, and thank you for all you do!
